I think music is a very important part of life. Music can make you feel so many amazing emotions, but mostly it makes you feel happy. Music can make you feel great and can be a “pick me up” during a long school day. Whether it is listening or playing music, this is why music is so important to students in school.

Listening to music while studying is very beneficial. If you are in a noisy place like school it is nice to  ¨escape” and get your work down. It is also a good way to calm down and relax your brain from the stress school brings. As a student myself I get a little in my head and overwhelmed by work, so music is a good way to give my mind something else to think about. Studies at the University of Wales showed that ¨listening to music before studying or performing a task can be beneficial as it improves attention, memory, and even your ability to do mental math as well as helping lessen depression and anxiety.¨ So music is more than something to enjoy, it can help you when it comes to school and life in general.

Playing music is also very great for students. Many students that I talk to that are in the musical program say that it is a great thing to study, learn, and is super fun.Others say that music has really gotten them out of their shell, having to play in front of big crowds. Playing music in school is great for your mind and your social skills. I play a couple of instruments too and it is really one of the highlights of my day .  Kids who play music are also reported to do better on the SAT too. One report shows students in music appreciation courses score 63 points higher on verbal and 44 points higher on math.

Whether it’s plugging in your earphones and relaxing or playing in a band, music is such a helpful and great thing to have in school.
