Corruption, terror threats, anti-gay legislation and overspending. That has been the talk of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. All this talk has committee chief Dmitry Chernyshenko determined to show the world that the games will be a success. “History will be made,” he said of Russia’s first Winter Games. Russia is spending $51 billion dollars on the games to turn Sochi into a year-round resort. Including long term infrastructure investments in roads, hotels, tunnels and railways as well as the new olympic park. “If you come and look around, this is the most state-of-the-art sports facilities in the world. Everything will be the cutting edge. The stadiums, the roads, the new hotel rooms — this infrastructure speaks for itself,” said Chernyshenko. With Russia deploying more than 50,000 soldiers and police to guard the Olympics, they will definitely be safe.
