Writers Block Has You Down? Follow These Steps To Beat It!

Sitting in class, staring down at a piece of paper. Your mind is blank and you have little to no time. You write two words, “The End,” but you erase it. You can’t figure out what to write about.  Has this ever happened to you? Well you are in luck! Here are some things that you can do to block the writer’s block. Let’s start off by eliminating what you shouldn’t do. You shouldn’t wait for a muse to suddenly appear in your mind. It’s not magical; it’s not going to randomly go, “Oh, let’s write about cats!” Let’s not walk away from the paper for a few minutes. This will make you forget about the paper you are about to write or just make you avoid it until the last moment. This will not help you because then you will get frustrated at the little time you have and still don’t know what you should write about.

What you can do is write for about 20 minutes or more and then take a 5 minute break. This will help with relaxing your mind so it doesn’t have to think too fast and will help things come out better.  You could also plan out what you want to write about. List some topic ideas and see which one flows the best. When you choose your topic, do your research or take what you know of the topic already and write it down! Those are some things you could do and there is plenty more. Just try them out until you find the right one. Writer’s block happens to everyone, and maybe even asking someone for a topic will get your writing juices flowing.
