Are Phones Always a Distraction?

As teenagers, most of us think of our phones as an extra limb, attached to us at all times. Many adults and teachers think they are a waste of time and distract us from school and certain activities. We use our phones for many, many things in our day-to-day lives. For some of us, our entire lives revolve around our phones. Our calendars, social media, contacts, notes, and sometimes even homework are on our phones. Have you ever gotten stuck on a  math problem when doing your homework and couldn’t figure it out no matter how hard you tried? Many of us have. There are tons of educational apps and websites that can help when things like that happen.

Parents and teachers sometimes assume we are doing unproductive things on our phones whenever we are on them, but that isn’t always the case. A lot of the time, we are scheduling our week’s activities, texting peers in our class about group projects we have to get done, or getting help with homework. There are times when phones can be a distraction, but a lot of the time they are a very helpful tool in getting through our busy weeks.
