Lake City has been gifted with a very talented senior class of athletes. Nine of them are wrestlers, and their excellence showed through last weekend at the district competition held at Lakeland High School. Not all of our seniors placed at the tournament, meaning not all will go to state, but they all have put a tremendous amount of effort into this season.
The nine senior wrestlers are
- Zion Dixon
- Corey Cook
- Cory Fachar
- Cory Dan
- Cory Wells
- Dylan Woodworth
- Killian Konda
- Justis Grammer
- Michael Carr
Five of them qualified to state. Dixon, the 285-pound wrestler, had a grueling match to determine if he would take first at the tournament or take home a silver. He prevailed with a gold medal, being the only Lake City wrestler to take home a gold medal from districts this year. Cook, Woodworth, Konda, and Carr were the other four wrestlers who qualified for state, all of them taking home 2nd places from the district tournament.

Almost all of our Lake City senior wrestlers have been wrestling since freshman year and have grown a tight bond with their coaches. When I asked their head coach Corey Owen to go give me a quote about this years group of seniors he said, “This group of seniors has put in a lot of work over the last 4 years and it has paid off for them with an incredible amount of success. They have achieved things that no other teams or wrestlers have ever achieved at lake city high school.”

The senior wrestlers have been very influential their entire time the have participated in wrestling, especially this year. They have impacted many young wrestlers and set a standard of excellence for the wrestlers to come. They leave for state tomorrow, February 27th, and we all wish them luck at state.
