Old Movies Worth Watching

Simon Nilges, A&E Editor

Movies are deeply ingrained to Americans as a society. In fact, movies are always a common small talk topic among high school students every day. However, most only talk about new and upcoming movies and shy away from the old ones. Some even say that any movies made before 2000 are not worth their time. To prove them wrong, here are five titles made before 1975 that are just as funny, dramatic, and entertaining as the movies of today.

  1. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

This classic stars famous British actress Audrey Hepburn. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is known as one of her best movies. In this movie she plays a young New Yorker who falls in love with a man who moved into her apartment complex.

  1.  Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)

This is the standard old cowboy movie with a slight twist. It takes place in the wild west and chronicles the epic story of a man with a harmonica and his companion who try to save a pretty young widow from a deadly assassin. It’s a near three-hour roller coaster full of plot twists and action.

  1. Young Frankenstein (1974)

If you’re looking for a truly gut-busting classic comedy, then look no further than Young Frankenstein. This title starring Gene Wilder as Dr. Frankenstein is an affectionate parody to the 1931 Frankenstein, but it is still hilarious for those not familiar with the original.

  1. Casablanca (1942)

This romantic drama entails an American expatriate meeting an old lover in World War II-era Africa. This movie is full of iconic lines and music that you may recognize, and it is frequently near the top on most best movie of all time lists.

  1. Citizen Kane (1941)

Citizen Kane is an amazing drama film where a wealthy business tycoon dies and journalists try to find the meaning of his last words. It has won an Academy Award for best writing and has been nominated for nine. Citizen Kane is widely considered as one of the best movies of all time.

Some of these movies are available on Netflix streaming, but the rest can easily be found on Amazon.
