This Saturday was a very chaotic, yet fun day for a lot of us. At least, for those who attended the Homecoming dance held in the commons. Everyone there was dressed in their finest, a rainbow of colors, patterns, and styles. The girls, in an assortment of beautiful dresses, the guys, decked out in suits and ties. The theme was Mardi Gras, the tickets were ten dollars at the door, and the music varied from techno, rap, and of course pop.

Strobe lights, pink lights, blue lights, red lights, all kinds of lights flashed around the room while the base from the music could be felt through the walls. People could be found dancing, munching on snacks, or just hanging out in the hallways as far as the eye could see. As more and more people flooded the commons, sectioned off by a black tarp, the dancing began to heat up. Too many songs to list were played that night, but almost all of them you were able to dance to, which people did.

Songs like the classic, Apple Bottom Jeans, along with newer songs like Watch Me (whip/nae nae) got everyone on the dance floor, and all in all everyone seemed to be having a good time. Candy and soda could be bought at the concession stand if you were low on energy, and while the more popular songs were played, you could hear everyone singing in unison. As the night went on and some people began to leave, the music just got better and better. The crowd got so pumped up that during one song, a giant conga line was formed and almost everyone joined in, and during another, people were sitting on other people’s shoulders, dancing.

But it wasn’t all fast pace upbeat music all the time. When slow songs were played, all the couples used that time to take the stage and show off their moves. The light show mixed nicely with the music, sometime going completely dark when the beat dropped, or flashing strobe lights at particularly busy parts of the song. At this point of the dance, the heat of so many people rocking the dance floor was a little too much to handle.

Luckily, behind the tarp that closed off the cafeteria it was much cooler, and served as a good place for people to rest while slow songs played. More and more people started to buy snacks to amp up their energy, while the DJ decided to end the night with a popular song by P! NK, but their seemed to be technical difficulties, so he tried again after a slow song and the night ended with a rocking song by Pink. All in all, this year’s homecoming dance was a complete success. Students danced, ate snacks, and just overall had a blast. It was a night that made a lot of memories, in a lot of different ways. Izzie Romanyolo said that,”This years dance was a blast, and a lot better than the dances in middle school!”.
